You know, I really painted myself into a corner this week. I’m broke until payday, the store is closed next week, so my paycheck is going to be sad. Sad, I say. Sad.

So today’s mission: scrape together enough for the weekend with minimal effort. I could sell something on eBay, but that takes too long. I could ask kid for money, but he’s out of town. So I reckon it’s yard-sale time — everything must go. I’ve got a watch that stores a whole 128MB of data, a Bose system, and roughly a thousand dollars of comic books just taking up space. Make me an offer, take advantage of my desperation.

HAHA — the funny thing is, you people don’t know if I’m actually broke or just bored. Don’t worry, I don’t know either.

You see, I call it Tetris syndrome. Sometimes I think I cause these problems for myself just so I’ll have something to do while solving them. It’s like when I play Tetris, get myself into a desperately stacked situation, and then claw my way back down to a clean board. That’s why I can hit level 20 with relative ease and you can’t. It’s good to be smarter than your problems — makes for a clean victory. That’s a quote from me, use it as you see fit.

I woke up this morning and a song was just there, playing in my head clear as if it were on the radio. It wasn’t, but it might as well have been: Eagle Eye Cherry — “Falling In Love Again.”

I’m not going to type out the whole thing (Google’s “I’m feeling lucky” will sort you out), but man, do I love that song. I’m actually a little more optimistic than Eagle Eye is about the whole business — but the tune stuck with me all day and I’m not mad about it.

Things to buy with my paycheck:

1, pay rent
2, buy some groceries
3, that’s honestly about it

Hey, small list — maybe I’ll get through the weekend without blowing the surplus. Two hundred dollars is way too tempting to leave in the bank, especially when Circuit City is full of stuff I don’t need at prices higher than they should be. CC, you menace.

Well, I wrote about 15 pages today and it’s all gloriously uninteresting. I’m starting to notice I write like I’m half asleep, which I don’t think is a bad thing — it means the rambling makes sense while you’re inside it. I also sat down and played some Super Mario Bros. today. What a great game. My skills are slacking, but I’ll blame the usual late-night daze.

Why sleep when staying up is this much fun? WHOO!

It’s like that Nick at Nite bit about insomniacs being great because they sit through the commercials. Anyway — bed eventually. Eventually.

PS: I should also consider buying something to drink. Soda counts as a food group, right?

First and foremost: Microsoft Word 2003 kicks complete and total ass. Its beauty, elegance, and grace prove Microsoft can build some of the best software of all time. I came to this truth while also deciding my computer is the best computer of all time. Bar none. It’s a sexy beast — yes, I find my PC attractive, no I’m not weird about it, wanna fight about it?

Today started rough. I woke up (that sucked), drove all the way to work (worse), and got stuck in Conway most of the day without food (very bad). I did, however, do my part keeping Robert’s sanity intact — that vein in his forehead did not pop on my watch, though it was close. I’m kidding, Rob. You were there for most of the time I was laughing about it.

On the way home I realized all I’d eaten was gum and a pack of stale crackers, so I stopped by McDonald’s and politely requested some food. Got home and noticed a few things:

1, my house was a mess, which never happens — I keep this place clean on principle.
2, half my friends were online.
3, my bed was quietly chanting “Doug… come sleep in me… you’re the greatest sleeper of all time.”
4, that food was looking mighty tempting.

So naturally I did all of it at once: ate dinner while chatting online while Chris wandered in and dragged me into a deeply pointless debate (tonight’s topic: why Half-Life is allegedly better than UT2K4 — he’s wrong). Around 12:30 he finally left, I cleaned the coffee table I’d just planted my hand in, and Timberland, Magoo, and I tidied up the place.

Moral of the story? I’m the man. The end.

Here’s a little QB script you can test out in your own home!

dim $emotion as string
$emotion = “depressed”

Do until $emotion = “happy”
    Print $emotion

Rem in this example, $phone is a constant and will never change.

If $phone = “ring” then $emotion = “happy”

Loop

Print “jebus christ, it’s about time that loop ended.”
end

For the script kiddies, crack open the Complete Idiot’s Guide to QuickBASIC 4 to figure that one out. For everyone with a mental capacity higher than your average coffee mug — you already get it.

Anyway, my wake state is at zero, so it’s time to shut this loop down. Who said emotions couldn’t be reduced to a tiny shell script? Cory says they can’t be explained logically. I think Microsoft would disagree, and my script does a dandy job.

Welcome to superterran.net; I hope you like it. I figured I’d try something new. It’s not done yet, nor will it probably ever be done — but I think it looks nifty. It looks pretty decent in Mozilla Firefox; IE, however, has some problems with it. (psst — that’s because IE struggles; HTH.)

I’ve been meaning to work on this site for a while, but I’m lazy and hadn’t lifted a finger to get it going. Got the weekend off, so I figured I’d give it a shot.

Nothing on the side bar works yet, so good luck finding anything of importance — but here are a few links worth a click:
