Royale: My Desktop, 2005

In February 2005 I uploaded a screenshot to WinCustomize called Royale, with a one-line caption: “This is my attempt to get everything to look uniform. I think it looks pretty slick.” Reader, I was right.

The Royale visual style — the silver-blue Media Center skin — on the Start menu and taskbar, over an Inspirat wallpaper (Bliss, but with a towering cloud, a ghost moon, and a rainbow).
Logged in as Administrator, naturally — with a Superman buddy icon. The same ST-as-Superman bit, still running years later.
Trillian Pro 3 docked top-right: screen name “ST,” Superman avatar, away message “Guess who’s back…”.
A Samurize-style sidebar: a green analog clock, a weather widget (Now 43°), a live CPU / DISK / MEM / SWP / NET monitor, and a Clipboard Viewer.
A skinned media player (Inspirat Royale) playing "(Vic Fontaine) — You’d Better Love" — the Star Trek habit reaching even the playlist.
An app shelf that is pure period: Firefox, Thunderbird, Winamp, Trillian, Media Player Classic, Jasc Paint Shop Pro 9, Office Word 2003.
The clock reads 2:41 AM. Of course it does.
