LyricPimp.com

Years after “Kid Pimp” retired, I brought him back in spirit. LyricPimp.com was an SEO playground — a sprawling, alphabetized lyrics directory — that I named in honor of KP. It worked: it pulled real search traffic and became, for a while, genuinely popular.

It committed fully to the bit: a purple layout, the leopard-print logo above, a search field wearing a tiny pimp hat (feather and all), a Comic Sans search box, and a sidebar headed “Forshizzle Dizzle.” It ran on superterran Fussion, my own homemade CMS — which places it in the late-2000s Fusion era, not the early days. The page below is the homepage rebuilt from the original theme files (recovered from my 2012 server backup) — the real layout.css and the real header art, deep purple and all. A note on what’s preserved here

LyricPimp’s content was song lyrics — copyrighted, and not mine to republish — so this exhibit deliberately preserves the site, its template, and the story, never the lyrics. The full site and database survive in my private backups, but the lyric corpus stays out of the museum — the reconstruction is the homepage chrome only, with the search and browse links left inert.

LyricPimp was the SEO sequel to a teenage in-joke — the Kid Pimp alter-ego, grown up and pointed at Google.
