Run my VB apps on real Windows 98

VB · ~2002
SPG's three missing siblings from the Software Division — Superterran Tic Tac Toe, Superterran 21, and the One Armed Bandit (slot reels: Bill Gates, Tux, Pac-Man, and the ST logo). Tripod blocked binary crawling, so only the descriptions survive. Documented in Doug's own period words.

MP3 Alarm Clock (RC4)

VB5 · 2002
My first 'killer app' — a feature-packed MP3 alarm clock: 7-day planner, unlimited playlist, volume fade-in so you weren't blasted awake, and a full-screen flashing clock. Freeware, offered for '3 easy payments of $0.00.'

Superterran XP

Tripod · ~2001–2002
A teenage Windows XP beta review ("Yes You Can"), a school tech column (Doug's Geek Corner), and the XP-styled personal site that hosted them — written while beta-testing 'Codename Whistler.'

The ST Mark screenshot

The ST Mark

superterran.com · ~2001–2005
The homemade Superterran branding — including the "ST·UT" banner ad (an Unreal Tournament screenshot pasted with the site URL), the Superman-parody ST crest, and the crosshair-and-globe logo that outlasted every design it sat on.

superterran (Tripod) screenshot

superterran (Tripod)

HTML · 2001
The original, hosted on Tripod and recovered from the Internet Archive — the framed personal site: a Flash intro, Windows XP hype, gaming, and homebrew software. (Some unfiltered 2001 ranting trimmed.)

Flash intros screenshot

Flash intros

Flash · ~2001
Three Macromedia Flash 5 animations from the Tripod site — the "remixed" logo intro, a looping logo bumper, and a tall Flash navigation menu — dead since 2020 and now playing live again in-browser via Ruffle.

Site Construction Made Simple(r)

PHP · ~2002-2003
My flagship superterran.com tutorial: a pitch for using PHP includes to assemble your site's interface instead of hand-copying HTML into every page — rendered by my own homemade engine, 'superterran Fussion 1.3.' Reproduced in full in my 2002 voice.

superterran radio screenshot

superterran radio

PHP · 2002–2003
A personal-site jukebox: the 2002/2003 site auto-played a folder of Windows Media streams — Eminem, Jay-Z, NSYNC, Timberlake. Preserved as a track list plus a real "My Shared Folder" Kazaa-era playlist (the songs themselves aren't re-hosted).

Background music screenshot

Background music

MIDI · ~2005
The folder of game and TV MIDIs that played as site background music — DuckTales "Moon," Duke Nukem 64, TMNT, the Mario 1-Up jingle, I Dream of Jeannie. Dead in browsers for years; now playing again client-side via a General-MIDI soundfont.

2008 - 2013 · Fusion · my own CMS

Fusion CMS

PHP · ~2008
Custom CMS with plugin architecture, XML routing, and MySQL config. A real framework — the engine behind the final superterran.com and the 2011 blog. Source preserved on GitHub as 'old-fusion'.

LyricPimp.com

lyricpimp.com · ~2007–2011
An SEO playground — a sprawling, alphabetized lyrics directory that pulled real search traffic and got genuinely popular for a while. Built on my own Fusion CMS; named in honor of 'KP' from my old handle.

madhabits.com screenshot

madhabits.com

madhabits.com / DHatcher.com · hand-rolled PHP · ~2009–2010
An anonymous personal blog I hand-coded in PHP — its own little engine, not Fusion. Famous (to me) for a hex-dump aesthetic: every line framed in random dark-red hex digits, with a theme switcher. Rebuilt from the original theme files and database.

Honorable mentions
USS Endeavour screenshot

USS Endeavour

GeoCities · BravoFleet · ~1998–2001
Not my site — but the best thing the archaeology turned up. A play-by-email Star Trek RPG (the Akira-class USS Endeavour, Bravo Fleet Task Force 21) that I crewed as a kid, run by someone else and recovered from the Wayback Machine. The LCARS fan-web my own first websites grew out of.

Computing through the years screenshot

Computing through the years

Windows → Mac → Linux · ~2001–today
The constant underneath everything: a kid who couldn't leave the machine itself alone. XP beta-tester, leaked-Longhorn reviewer, LiteStep/Royale shell-skinner, then Mac, then Linux. Real period desktop screenshots, recovered from old backups.
exhibitscreenshots

LiteStep themes

LiteStep · ~2001
Before the unused superterran.com skins, before the browser Longhorn desktop, a teenage power-user was tearing the Windows shell out by the roots. My own Tripod site says I made LiteStep themes — but no theme file survives anywhere across 13+ customization repos. Known to have existed, files lost.

The kid who wrote about computers

tech reviews, tutorials & rants · ~2002–2007
Before the blog and the career, a teenager who couldn't stop writing about computers — a leaked-Longhorn review, an Apache how-to, a Steve Jobs essay, a PC-repair intake form. The tech-writing slice of the personal archive.

MySpace Layouts

MySpace · ~2005–2008
Dozens of custom MySpace profiles, made and traded back in 2006 — the most ephemeral artifact the web ever produced. No layout file survived, but my own 2008 blog proves I was modding my profile's guts and hosting them off-site. The honest record of what's lost, and what we could still prove.
